On October 27, 1968, a small group of dedicated Christians met at the Old Pennington's Barn on Youngblood Road in Milledgeville, Georgia to establish an independent Baptist Church.
There were 37 charter members and their familes present at the first meeting. The members voted to name the Church "Emmanuel Baptist Church", which interpreted means "God with us".
Rev. John W. Layfield was called as the first pastor, and he served faithfully as pastor for the next 35 years until the Lord called him Home in October 2003.
The Church soon purchased 2 acres of land on the Gordon Highway (243), south of Milledgeville.
On June 22, 1969, a brand new Church building was dedicated to the glory of God. The building has a 300 seat capacity sanctuary and 8 sunday school rooms.
Over the next several years, more land was acquired and the church building now stands on approximately 24 acres of land, along with a pastorium, fellowship hall, education building and a large metal building.
The Church remains today as an independent, fundamental, missionary Baptist Church.
